Payton Freeman
Pair of runner-up finishes in Spring Nationals finale; finishes second in points
After Mother Nature won Thursday’s stop at Lavonia Speedway (Lavonia, Ga.), Payton Freeman returned with the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals on Friday at Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Ga.) for the Memorial Day special. With preliminary events lining him up sixth for the $5,053-to-win A-Main, Freeman made a late charge in the 40-lapper to finish second. For the Memorial Day Classic on Sunday at Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tenn.), Payton followed up the second-fastest time in time trials with a second-place finish in the feature, trailing Josh Putnam.
Payton finished second in the final Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals point standings, a mere 34 markers behind Carson Ferguson.
On Monday, Freeman stopped at 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tenn.) for the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series-sanctioned Scott Sexton Memorial. Earning the 13th-starting position for the $10,052-to-win A-Main via third-place finish in his heat, Payton dropped two spots in the 52-lap affair to finish 15th.
