Freeman records Top-10 finish in Roscoe Smith Classic at Senoia Raceway
Following the Schaeffer's Oil Southern Nationals Series for a four-day race weekend, Payton Freeman rolled into (Senoia, Ga.) for the Roscoe Smith Classic on Thursday evening.
With a strong 47-car field on site, Freeman missed the setup in qualifying but gained a couple spots in his consolation race to nab the final A-Main transfer position. Starting towards the back of the pack in the $7,544-to-win feature, Freeman charged through the field to finish inside the Top-10 in ninth.
Traveling to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) on Friday afternoon, Payton qualified a strong third-fastest before a heavy thunderstorm rolled into the area. Officials were forced to postpone the event to August 18th.
Heading back into Georgia on Saturday, Freeman made up three spots in his heat race to earn a feature starting position. For the $10,053 Rebel Yell, Payton was battling for a Top-5 position when he hit the inside berm, causing him to spin. He was scored 18th in the final rundown.
Sunday's Southern Nationals event at Swainsboro Raceway (Swainsboro, Ga.) was postponed due to heavy rain showers.
