Freeman collects four Top-10 finishes during Memorial Day weekend
Heading to the Midwest for Memorial Day weekend, Payton Freeman entered his Coltman Farms Racing No. F1 into MARS Late Model Championship competition at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) on Friday afternoon.
With 32 Late Models signed in, Freeman followed up the fastest lap in his qualifying group by winning his heat race. Rolling off third in the $5,000-to-win feature, Payton battled inside the Top-5 but fell to sixth at the checkers.
Making the short trip to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Saturday, Payton was once again fastest in his qualifying group but fell back in his heat. With a fourth-place finish setting him up to start the feature from the seventh-row, Freeman made up four positions to nail down his second Top-10 of the weekend.
Finishing off the weekend in Illinois, Payton was one of 25 entries at Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) on Sunday afternoon. Following the ninth-quickest lap in qualifying, Freeman finished second in his heat race and went out to land a fifth-place finish in the third $5,000-to-win event of the weekend.
Finally wrapping up the holiday weekend at Clarksville Speedway (Clarksville, Tenn.) on Tuesday evening, Freeman was fourth-quickest in qualifying and transferred to the main event with a runner-up finish in his heat. Rolling off from the fourth-row in the $10,000-to-win feature, Payton gained four positions to record his best finish of the week in fourth.
